Honestly it was diffcult to chose a favorite game sine I've played so many for so long, But for my favorite game of all time I chose Clair Obscur: Expediton 33. Every once in a while, a game comes along that doesn't just entertain you, it completely takes over your thoughts. You would be thinking about it at school, at work, or while scrolling on your phone. A soundtrack so good it keeps looping your head and a cast of characters that feel weirdly real. For me that game is Clair Obscur: Expediton 33.
Why I love this game so much
From the first time I saw the trailer, I was intrigued. The art style felt different. The music and visuals had a great first impression. It wasen't like other games where they only show you the best parts to hook you in. It presented itself beautifuly, it was hard not to be interested. And once I finally started playing the game, it completely exceeded my expectations.
In an industry packed with sequels, remakes, and safe formulas, Expedition 33 feels like a breath of fraesh air. It feels intentional. It feels like the studio thta made the game set out to prove something and actually succeeded. And as a fan, I genuinely believe it deserves to be called one of the best games ever made. This is not that crazy of a claim since Expedition 33 not only won 2025 Game of the year awrad, but it also won eight other awards along with it. A amazing feat for a team with less than 40 developers.
What makes this game great
The Beutiful World
There's a rare kind of magic when you play a game that feels like the start of something timeless.
—Zek Lu, RPGFan,Clair Obscur: Expediton 33
From the moment you step into its French inspired setting, Expedition 33 feels different. The art direction isn't just pretty, it's striking. There is this melancholic beauty to everything like the crumbling buildings, surreal landscapes, and an atmosphere that constantly abnormal and beautiful at the same time. It's the kind of world that feels carefully crafted rather than procedurally filled. Every environment has its own feel and style. Like every visual choice was methodicaly crafted. You really do get absorbed this world when you play the game.
A Story That Actually Says Something
At its core, Expedition 33 isn't just about stopping a mysterious force, it's about mortality, inevitability, and defiance. The premise alone is powerful: a society living under the shadow of an annual event that erases people of a certain age. That looming countdown gives the narrative emotional drive for the characters. Every character has thier own story, personality and motivatian. At the end of the game you are givin a heavy choice where each outcome has its own reward and consequence. It is rare for a game to blend spectacle with genuine emotional depth this well.
Presentation on Another Level
Men trip not on moutains, but they stumble upon stones
—Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur: Expediton 33
The voice acting was amazing. The soundtrack has some of the best music I have ever heard. The cinematic direction was beautifuly handcrafted. Everything in this game feels top quality. The music alone elevates key scenes into unforgettable moments. Boss fights feel like events, not just obstacles in your way. Even the simple character interactions carry emotional weight thanks to the performances of the voice actors. I genuinely can not think of a bad design element in this game.
Final thoughts
Is Expedition 33 perfect? Realistically no, there is such thing as a perfect game. But when I think about what makes a game “the best”, I think about things like originality, emotional impact, memorable gameplay, artistic identityit and Expedition 33 checks every box for me. It's fun, beautiful, emotionally resonant, and unforgetable. And in the future, I genuinely believe people will look back and realize just how special it was.
